We all know that getting used to a game takes a while, and that's ok. But we can't just have any unexperienced player jumping in and shooting things that move. In my personal opinion, there should be something like a training ground, much like how Anarchy Online has it or Runescape. You can begin there and learn the basics, and when you have a handle on it, you can leave, ready to be ranked amongst your fellow kin.
Good Idea?_______or_______Bad Idea?

You mean inexperienced... something like like a tutorial island, or a milatary training ground, since the game will be like that, would be a good idea imo...

Well, anyone played America's Army? Free game great graphics.
In that game you can join any server before you do training, you can't use specific weapons without training. Well what im trying to say that the players who just started, they get no weapons no armor, they apear at military camp, they sign up and after they do different training at different weapons and stuff. When they pass to be a soldier they are released from the camp and then you can do whatever you want. In that camp you get all tutorials and stuff that you need to know about. Same would be for the lisence thing, like when you get driving lisence, you go to special trainer, he gives you a test to drive, i you complete the test succesefully you get the lisence.

It's a good idea, but only to a certain point. I'm all up for people learning the game before they join the main fighting, but sometimes tutorials can be soooooo boring. When I was going through the CoH tutorial I was SO insanely bored. I just wanted to play the game but I knew I wouldn't understand a lot of stuff if I didn't go all the way through with it.
So what I hope for, isn't that they have some zone where you read pages and pages of text. I'd rather them throw you right into a battle and explain things as you get to them, in short explanations. One of the things that I actually really liked about WoW was how they explain everything. They don't bore you with a 2 hour long tutorial, they just throw you into the game and explain stuff as you get to it in quick little explanation boxes. I wouldn't mind a tutorial island or something, as long as they find a way to make it fun. So it's not like "hello "Grind" welcome to tutorial island, here we are going to learn the basics of the game as well as some things that will help you get through difficult situaltions, please proceed through the door on your right and talk to the NPC in the room". That just seems insanely boring. I'd rather start fighting right away, maybe they have a little intro movie and then it's something more like "Grind you have just landed via dropship in a hostile area! you must get to your capital city so you can take on the enemy with the rest of your faction!" and you have to make your way to the capital city while fighting off some enemies and on the way you come across anything that they will need to explain, and when you pass by it a little explanation box comes up or some radio voice comes in and explains it. Then when you make it to the city you complete the mission by talking to some NPC that can get you started or real missions. The way America's Army did it wouldn't be too bad, since I guess we will be kind of fighting like an army or whatever. Even though the AA tutorial took forever, it was ok because it was kind of like soldier training and since I've never been in the army it was kind of interesting and fun. I don't know if something like that would work for huxley though, I'd rather just get thrown into battle like my above example. |

Well as long as i don't have to read any boring texts as you said, im fine with it, i heard voices and what to do and i do it, i want action and commands what to do, not sitting and reading a book while you are being shot at.
I tried EVE online... The tutorials were so freaking long that i almost fell asleep. And guess what? It was text based, i believe there was a voice, but the voice made you sleepy so that you would fall asleep before you made a choice. The America's Army game tutorials weren't tutorials, it was training. Most of the training missions were cool, where you had to shoot and stuff to be able to hae the weapon. The only boring once were the First Aid exam to be medic and the Special Forces exam where you had a paper infront of yo uand you had to choose the right answers, for which i used a guide book. Still the tutorials or start upp should be fun so you enjoy the game from the start, aspecialy FPS, you should be given a weapon right away and mobs start to assault you. So im with you Grind!

Yes, I played America's Army way back when it just came out of beta. The actual training was ridiculously tough. I cheated on the medical exam via gamefaqs.com and never could pass that stealth mission. The training actually required people to know what they were doing to advance. It was the most realistic tutorial I've ever played.
And as for you Berserker- no need to bust balls. lol

Wel lthe game has changed a lot through time, played it long ago but not long enough, cause i had friends that told me things about the game, so i thought it was totaly differant game, but it changes whole the time.
The latest training i've done was the training with super Bazooka or what it's called, and the hammer training where you drive around shooting targets. Fun training to me lol :P And about the Last SF mission training, yeah it's dark and hard, but i made it, for me and some people i know who couldn't manage it :P Well the point is that the training was cool, fun and teaching. Wasn't been lame ass text base tutorial, the only text there was, was the exams when you answered question and still had had picture of real soldiers and real training in the beging of the session and the guy was telling you about what to do, he was speaking, not typing you. FPS shouldn't have text based tutorials where you fall asleep reading, only text should be is the number or the letter of the keyboard for the special action.

I disagree slightly InsaneRussian. Closed Captions may be for deaf people but I still put them on the TV. Sometimes there is a word I miss or can't understand, but I keep CC on so I always understand what's going on. Plus it's really cool to say a peice of dialogue while they say it sometimes.
example: "KHAAAAAAAAAAAAN!"

Well it's usual is used as both oral and reading tutorial. What i mean while the guy is talking subtitles run, which i've meant. What i don't like is fully textbased tutorial where you have to read for hours and trying to understand. When you listen you understand one thing and the you read while listening and that gives you a deeper understanding. Plus i doubt that deaf people play FPS games. Cause most of the FPS gives your better chance of winning over you enemy cause you can hear them.
Blind people could handle FPs better then deaf. Read an article about blind boy pwning his friends in CS :P Hope you understand what i mean, there are RPGs text base and there are FPS both oral and text (subtitles).
