I'm pretty sure there is no information about this kind of thing. But there really isn't much to talk about so I figure we can have a little discussion about what we would like to see (since that's what we mostly do anyway lol).
I think it would be cool to start players off in a hostile environment where they have to escape to the saftey of their races capital. This could kind of serve as a tutorial as players could experience combat, recieving items and exp. for the first time, and get a bit of an explanation as it all happened. I was thinking something like, as you login for the first time, maybe you see a cool little video showing war and explosions with people fighting and all that intense stuff. Then you come to your character in a little bunker or small base where explosions are going off outside and you basically get a mission to make your way to your capital so you can help in the main fights (maybe a have a little mission you can do before this to possibly get a first starting weapon because I forget if they said you start out right away with a gun in your hands). After you get the mission you start making your way out into the open and come under heavy fire. Moving from cover spot to cover spot, and shooting anything that's shooting at you. I was think something that would be really fun and make it way more intense would be to have the opposing faction be able to pick up a mission that would say something like "Reinforcements are being sent to aid the enemy! we must stop them at all costs if we are to win this war!" And the objective would be to shoot at all the new players who were making their way to their capital. To make it not a big slaughterfest with no way of the starting players to make it through the massive hail of bullets, I would say, have multiple bunkers set up along the way where players can take cover and possibly regain health. And if you die before you can make it to the next safe spot, then you simply respawn in the bunker that would be the one next along the path. This way even if you instantly died when you stepped out of your bunker, you could always make it to the city no matter what. However there would be a bunch of cover so it wouldn't be impossible to make the run without dieing. Those who had the quest to stop the reinforcements (that basically has the purpose of giving the new reinforcements a hard time) would be able to turn in their mission for exp. after they either killed a certain amount of people or after they spent a certain amount of time in that certain zone (I was thinking there could only be one spot that the shooters could be to make sure that those running could use the cover fully, just to make it easier for them). Anyway, once the new players made it to the city they could turn in their mission and get started with the main portion of the game. One thing that I hope SO much for, is for Huxley not to have a boring tutorial mission where you are forced to read paragraph after paragraph of explanations. That is possibly the most boring and tedious thing to ever put in a game. I know players need to learn the basics of the game, but the kind of tutorial where every five seconds you have to read a page of text are really really anoying and boring. I'm hoping Huxley will handle that part of the game better than many games. I would favor how WoW handled teaching players about things they hadn't seen yet in-game: Once you see something that you haven't been around before, a small box pops up that you can read, this box includes a small, breif, short, to the point description of what a certain item does. We don't need a novel explanation for everything. I would prefer these come up as you see and do things for the first time, rather than in an hour long tutorial mission. This way players can quickly get started enjoying the game and if they see something they don't know what to do with, they will have a nice little box pop up to tell them (in a short, quick description) what that item or whatever is for. Sorry for dragging this on kind of long. I would just really like to see Huxley start off in a bit of a unique way, as well as keeping it simple and fun (which would pretty much be unique in itself lol). Now don't get me wrong. I don't want Huxley to be a simple boring game in anyway at all. I just want things to be explained as you go along. I don't want to sit there for an hour reading text about things that I will encounter later on in the game. I'm hoping they leave the kind of tutorial with walls of text flying at my screen out of the game. |

I like what you were thinking here, there was a pretty good setup with the tutorial for Lord of the Rings Online, where you start your mission and you have an objective to rescue someone, then you go do that and then they lead you along with no pauses as you completed the beginning area/tutorial mission.

Hopefully they have something like that. especially since I'm sure people that haven't been reading up on huxley will have lots of question when the game comes out. There is sure to be a lot of things that need explanation and hopefully they can find a good way to explain it all.
