im sure you will be able to destroy windows, and small objects, but i dont think you will be able to destroy landscapes or walls. It would be cool if you good, but i have a hard time immagining the specs of a game with 200 player battles, including vehicles as it is.
But i do love Red Faction, so lets hope so. Sure wish theyd come out with a Red Faction 3! |

Red Faction 2 wasn't so great, yeah. But by adding more moving objects (AKA flying rocks and blown up bricks) it adds more stress onto computers. This will make it harder for computers to work and thus will give us a lesser community because the every-day consumer cannot keep up. But I do wish as well that one day destructable environments will be included in an MMO of some kind.

All of this is built into the engine, so it's available. It will simply be a matter of whether it's practical in the environments.
Destructible environments won't happen in games to any real degree until we get to the point where publishers are willing to accept less-than-cutting edge graphics in a new game in lieu of something else that will tax the hardware; in this case, the calculations necessary for a destructible environment. |

Once the N locks down their SLi 2.0 scheme we'll be able to run 1 card as a GPU and a lesser card (older GPU 6 or 7 series sli compatable) as the PPU. When this starts happening you can expect a lot more physics within games. Because the UE3 engine supports physics it's probable that, at a later date, if they see that a lot of people are running some sort of PPU, that they will begin to use more physical details within the instanced missions and similar. Also there is already one instance for sure where players will have to shoot a tram car off it's track (where it's nearly fallen off already) in order to cross a gap/crevase sort of thing. Physics is something that is also very taxing on the servers because it is yet one more thing that the servers have to manage and keep track of. If there are physics with the initial release great but don't be surprised if they are extremely limited or non-existent.
They could also go the COH route where physical objects are rendered clientside and the server has no affect on it. Basically what this means for huxley is that when something blows up and sends little fragments of brick all over the place that explosion is different for everyone. If a little piece of brick blows up and slides up next to your foot the odds that anyone else sees that brick from their POV is next to nill. This also means that there is still no breaking glass and no knocking over walls to get to whoever is on the other side. It's all still speculation at this point. |
