Hey!
Ive been playing most of the MMO that exist. In my opinion what makes them interesting in the longer run and bigger perspective is the persistent world. From reading info about Huxley it doesnt seem to have one. Its a hyped up version of Battlefield with a town level you can socialize and buy your upgrades in. Is this WoW without the "world" and just Stormwind (Town), Alterac Valley (Battlezone) and Scholomance (Quest)? I want an MMO like Planetside. Then I think it will be a serious competitor. Ive read in some places you will have to wait for vehicles too spawn too. Thats a real killer. Boring. Other than that I think this will be one of the big ones this year. What do you think? |

I think it is going to be a good game but I also think it isn't going to meet the high expectations people have for it. From what I gather everything will be instanced and you will have to que up to get into a battle. How else are they going to handle all the data being tranfered on the realms. I don't see them maintaining performance and and the graphics and game play if they run the realms like WoW. It will be more like guild wars.

No, it will have persistent world elements.
I.E. You character is 'autosaved' onto a server, You level up, there are quest/NPC missions. Yet at the same time, yes it will be similar to PS.

I'm fairly certain that the battle fields are persistent as well as the city zones. Missions will be instanced. Because of the low zone caps ie. 200max the battlefields will likely spawn secondary and tertiary instances of that particular battlefield. Especially if there is a large event going on within that particular battle field. Maybe this is what you're mistaking for instanced battlefields. this frequently happens during special events in COH when a zone caps out at 300 they create a second instance of that zone that is just as persistent as the first.

they will try to find a way to make it so you cant spawn camp......like maybe have 6 or seven diffrent spawns or a map telling you which spawns are camped or maybe just a no-enter zone.

I feel like every thread should have an automatically-posted disclaimer that says "they haven't released any real detail about this element of the game, so saying it looks good or bad is pointless because nobody really knows".
At this point it seems like talking about other games is more fruitful than discussing a game this far away that's keeping so quiet. But as far as I can remember, recent-ish interviews have pointed to the concept of having 2 major "safe" cities, and then some others that are essentially up for grabs. Well that would go along with the idea they specifically stated awhile back about groups being able to control resource points and gain from it. So certainly the game will have a persistent world to some degree. I think the idea behind the transportation system is to keep the action itself focused, so you're not running around empty areas of the world. Last edited by connnnn; 05-04-2007 at 09:57 PM. |

see thats the prob not alot of ppl outisde the MMORPG world knew about this webzen needs to advertize more and get the product out there i didnt know about it until i went looking for the next hitman game and i found huxley. So cities up for grabs i wonder if players can purchase pill boxes or machine gun nests and get a bigger % of the mineral in the city and when ther are just so many battlezones near a cityand after theyve won all the battles they can finally get to raid the city if you can use the pill boxes or anit tank guns or mortar rounds? i mean wouldnt that be cool if you buy a pillbox and you get like 5 more % of lunarites than other ppl and at a lower price and when they try to raid the city you have a supped upped machine gun nest with miniguns and anit tank and mortar? ( id like input on this i think its a pretty good idea and welcome back connnn)

I agree, there should be contested territory "like in WoW" but where you can actually do stuff for battles.

The battles will be instanced, but not like WoW instances. You don't have to run through a little glowing portal and then wait for a loading screen.
It's more like, you get onto a train, and the train takes you to where you will be fighting. There aren't any loading screens even on the train and you can even see other people riding the train with you. Once you get there you find out where you are needed and maybe take another train somewhere or whatever. I don't think it will be like. Ok i'm sitting in a room...I click on this button...loading screen...I spawn at the flag and go fight. More like you travel to the battlezone and then join the fight. Good stuff :D |

This is the great thing about human beings, they improve on stuff they already created. I think huxley will be better than Planetside, because we have seen the errors made with that game, and want to improve on it. Of course, some people don't learn, keep making mistakes over and over again, but I believe in the designers at webzen. I believe that they will pull through for us, and make the most succesful MMO in the history of Massively Muliplayer Online games.

they have said that the results on the battlefield will effect the enviroment in real time. the example they used was something like this.
if a powerplant is knocked out, a nearby base's automated defenses will go down. if a major powerplant is taken by the enemy, the lights in the city will go out and everyone will go "oops, gotta go retake powerplant X" |

Doesn't seem like the battlefields being instanced would do them any good. Except perhaps cut down on lag a little bit? I would have to say that they are persistent given that there's just not a lot to do with a non persistent map other than beat it...then beat it again. but then it's just battlefield with a PVE element and a 3D lobby.

I would think they made instanced battles to help server lag in general. I know in WoW when there used to be huge world PvP fights the servers would pretty much just crash. Instanced battles maybe are made so that the server will be more stable and all that.
Also so that they can but a cap on the amount of players. that way a battle can't be like 500 vs 100 or something insane like that. |
