Default Movement Techniques

While I dont mind whether or not there are extra movement capabilies other then just crouching, jumping, running. After hearing that its some what fast pace like UT, nonetheless running on the engine, I was wondering if there would be sometype of unique movement techniques, such as dodging, or even something as simple as a roll.

I hope there will be a roll like in gears because u can still hit people when they are rolling but it also helps you to dodge. Also a cover system like gears would be pretty awasome. I would hope that there is no jumping or at least that its not high like in halo 2.

From the looks of the videos jumping looks like UT's. At anyrate I was thinking perhaps have some acrobatic skill upgrades that would unlock things like maybe rolling or dodging.

Maybe rolling is a skill that can be upgraded and you can roll faster and roll more frequently.

Personally I can't stand the cover-based systems from Kill.Switch/GOW/whatever else... if someone is shooting a projectile at your feet, you should be able to JUMP :|

On topic though, they've only mentioned a "sprint"-esque speed boost skill, and the double jump, as far as I know.

The more capabilities of movement - the better the game
The more restrictions of movement - the worse the game (got CS anyone?)

The faster the better too

there is an E3 review wherein someone reviews how huxley felt movement-wise as an FPS.
doesn't go too in-depth but its worth a look

i found it here
http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm?g...ure=683&bhcp=1

some highlights:
Quote:
he had the assumption that I needed advice as I attempted things like jumping through a window. “You can’t jump out windows,” he said. I had tried shooting one out and no dice
Quote:
It has that intuitive Unreal Tournament feel. It’s a bit awkward on the backup but I’m not sure how much of that was because I had an observer that was assessing whether or not I needed a straight jacket.

to my knowledge the avenger gets the ability to see health levels of the enemy.
and you are in luck-
the ability to sprint goes to enforcers

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ifkL1uvWsG8

its about midway through the video the speaker talks about enforcers hitting the u-button to sprint for a while.

they said in the most recent interview that, while it will be a mixture of both the UT and Quake genre's that it will lean more towards the Quake side....now i have never played any quake game in the series but i hear it is good so0o0o im fine with it.....as long as its not a slow style shooter(*cough Planetside*cough).

Where did they say that? O,o

It sounds kind of weird, since strafe jumping (momentum-based movement) is pretty much the defining characteristic of the Quake series, and strafe jumping vs dodging is one of the biggest differences between the 2 franchises...

Hell Huxley even has regenerating shields/health, while another defining Quake element is that it has DEgenerating.

Producer Kijong Kim suggests that the action in the game will be a bit closer to the arcade-style action of the Quake series than the methodical pacing of the team-based Counter-Strike, though Huxley will have elements of both games.

its in the interview (Huxley Updated Impressions)

My bad i said Quake and Unreal but it was quake and CS

Ohhhh yea I do remember that quote now. Makes a lot more sense :P

Definitely faster-paced and less crouching behind stuff waiting for people to walk by.

Cover is effective in every game (even in the fastest-paced ones). Just because there's not an automatic take-cover button doesn't mean you can't use it just as effectively :>

So don't worry you can still play methodically and even somewhat stealthily if you want, you just won't be automatically peeking around corners and using camo to blend into trees.

there should be just as much skill to movement as there is to aiming and using the weapons. good players should be able to use doublejump and wall jump and sprintjump to do things that make nubes go "OMG, that was like total hakz fo sho!1!" making yourself hard to hit is a skill just as important as putting rounds on target. or at least it is in fun FPSs.
