Seen many games coming out of Asia that has literally no character customization. No one is unique, everyone looks the same..
From what I have seen from screenshots and videos this seems to be the case in Huxley as well. Am I wrong? Most characters in the video is wearing the same armor for example. I am also wondering if anyone knows if you can alter your appearance when you make the character. Unreal 3 engine leaves so much room for awesome customization but it looks like they have left this out, I hope I am wrong.. |

Sounds promising. I sure hope there is alot of different types and that they make a difference, it is an rpg combined with fps after all as far as I have heard.. Gonna play it either way, there aint no other game that im looking forward to as much as Huxley..

Remember too, those videos are from early development. I'm sure a team is working on it.
As silly as it seems, I love getting my characters dressed for the occasion. I hope they do have a good range of 'looks' for our guys and gals. |

I definately hope there is lots of character customization. It's important to have a unique character you like when you plan to play as them for hundreds of hours.

This, in my opinion, is a very important feature to have in any mmo, custimization is key. Some of the things that i would like to see, would be eye, hair, facial and muscle features. Another thing that i would also like to see is a great range of armor, cloths, maybe some goggles or something. But hey, its just me.

I personally don't care that much if there is little customization as long as the game kicks ass. Although, it would DEFINITELY be a bonus to the role playing factor to hardly ever see a clone of yourself.

Wud be cool if you could somehow get your face onto the character with the xbox 360 web cam coming out soon. did they not do that in one of the tony hawks ? i don't know how well it worked though . peace

good luck getting your face mapped and bump mapped to look realistic unless you've got some skill with a 3d software and a texture program.
the star wars MMO had great character customization, there was enough customization, but not too much |

One major problem you run into with alot of customization is with customization you lose optimization. LOD is a great way to reduce customization's effects for loading different things at once, but as soon as you get close enough, well, it just doesn't help.
In other MMOs the optomization isn't all that heavy because the latency and the FPS aren't as big of an issue as they are in an FPS shooter. Framerate, latency and packet transfer are all key in making a fun game. Laggy shooters suck to play, so in order to keep the framerate up, the easiest way is to lower the amount of different crap you need to load. I love customization, but if the game runs smoother because you don't have as much, well, I like gameplay more than graphics.

There's a difference between planar mapping a 3d face and tossing a flat picture on it, adjusting it so the edges line up and making a 3d face with your image on it. There's really no way to automate that kind of function on a 3d model simply beacuse people's faces won't all fit the 3d model so you're going to have stretching etc.
Be interesting to see how they try to swing that.
