It could be one of the squad bonuses: as long as your squad sticks together you all get an HP regeneration buff.

Healers can have other functions though. They might be able to fix armor or something as well, or maybe give someones armor a quick boost of regeneration. Even if there was just a little side ability to let a healer revive someone (have them start off at really low health since it seems like you regenerate pretty quickly) I'd be happy.
