Pre-E3 2006: Huxley Interview
Webzen's Unreal Engine 3 powered MMOFPS could be the entry to persistent universes action fans have been looking for.
by Tom McNamara
May 3, 2006 - There have been a couple of first-person shooter massively multiplayer titles at this point. Neither were exceedingly successful. Offering up a game type that players are used to receiving in a format that can be either won or lost is a much trickier proposition in a persistent world with character growth where technically characters can't die permanently. Victory is only a frustrating carrot dangled out of reach of even the most talented players. How do you fix that? Webzen thinks they have the answers in their upcoming MMOFPS Huxley that mixes PvE, PvP, and persistent characters in rich sci-fi setting based off of some principles of A Brave New World. We know it sounds crazy, but it's visually stunning thanks to Epic's Unreal Engine 3 and has the potential to be something special from a gameplay perspective as well. We'll see the game up and running at the Electronic Entertainment Expo next week but thought we'd tease you all with a bit of info via a Q&A with the development team. Check it out and look for first-hand impressions from the show floor.
