yeah trenches would only really slow the game down.
Which isnt really what their going for.
And yes urban warfare does consist of smal squad based battles. But if you take the landscape used for a small squad based battle, times it by ten and put ten squads in you've got a v.active v.busy battlefield.
There will probably be very few "open" spaces, not saying theres not going to be any but chances are battles will be fought within instalations or building structures, or defending from these areas.
Open land will most probably be covered by using veichles as transport, think tribes 2. Very large landscapes, but most combat focused around the buildings and strategic points, mabye with a few snipers scattered in the open ground picking off stagglers, and people running between points.
