In regard to being able to defect to the other side, I agree with this comment in that it doesn't add a whole lot to the gameplay. It would probably even detract from the gameplay in that both sides would eventually be identical mixtures of both races, effectively making the game have only one race from a gameplay perspective.
Without defection, it would be Race A vs. Race B. Each race has distictive abilities. With defection you basically have A+B vs. A+B, which is boring. Defection to a third side with maybe a tradeoff of abilities could work though, because then you have limited versions of A and B working with race C (npc's). It would basically be A vs. B vs. a+b+C, or something like that. Maybe just make race C playable! :?
