If this were to occur the game would lose a lot of depth, it would be just like in Counter Strike were you can switch from one side to the other and you get no real sense of loyalty or emtional connection with your race. And off course there's also the balance issues where players skip across to the more powered races and then skip back. I don't see anything wrong with players betraying their race and joining the hybrid race if that is made possible later on in the game, however they should not be allowed to return.

This is a bit off topic but I hope they implement some sort of time span between using chracters like in ps where if you play with one race, and then switch, you cannot re-switch for another 10 hours. This would avoid players simply jumping across to their alts when the other race is winning a battle.
