There are a lot of similarities in both genres that sort of melt in the middle. To be quite honest, theres a reason why UT3 died with it only being release a few months ago. Usually a FPS has more than a quarter year life span. Perhaps that reason is because its appeal is rapidly decreasing due to its intense momentum.
I dont know about you, but I sure don't want to be waiting years and years for a game just to see it have a 1000-1500 worldwide population after 3-4 months(like the other sci-fi post apocalyptic mmofps neocron)
I believe this game is being marketed to both crowds. As I agree that this game and the dominance attained in it will be on skills gained primarily on UT like fps'. There are things to be learned from both the slower mmo side and the "Twitching l33tness" attained in the super fast genre of FPS.
It is a bit unfair to bundle ALL fps games into one category as all of them have a different amount of game play momentum. The only two i can think of that are a bit too fast are Quake and UT. I know i play COD4 on a regular basis and that game has way higher population than UT3.
All the BF games also have a high amount of players, even the now ancient BF 1942. I'm not knocking Huxley at all, I just don't want to see it fall on its face like UT3 did due to its imbalance in game momentum.
Im sure the game may be superbly fun the the seasoned twitcher, but what about that dumb noob who is getting camped because he cant live 5 seconds out of the spawn point? or he doesnt have a low enough ping. I really do hope they have US servers, then further break them down to regions because with all FPS's sadly it's mostly all about Ping. (LOL famous saying from way way back in the day of the fps Tribes)
If the game is a mmo for the fps fan, by all means have at it. But don't clone the game after a failed business model (UT3)

Thats were you're wrong. UT3 did not fail because of the gameplay. It failed for other reasons.
-Horrible "consolized user interface. UT3 is (in)famous for having one of the worst user interfaces ever.
-Extremely buggy "beta" demo that left a bad taste in many gamers mouths. UT3 is notorious for this. Over 200,000 tried the demo, which led too...
-No advertising. The main thing that killed UT was a lack of any sort of real advertising. Epic has stated that they didn't have a big advertising budget for UT. But they were sure able to blow alot of money on Gears...
-Consolization- I really, really, really, really, really don't hope Huxley suffers from this. UT3 did.
-Buggy retail product. The retail product was unfinished. It was buggy as hell. This led to most people abandoning the game. However, a 1,000 or so still clung on..which led too...
-Epic abandoning its PC community. Epic games blamed UT's extremely lackluster sales on the popularity of consoles. They then publicly stated that they were going to focus on console games (Ironically, this is in the same time span that they joined the PC gaming alliance, and when Orange Box and Crysis had sold over a million copies. No market for PC games my ass).
UT3 is a failure. Not arguing with you there. But I take great offense to you saying that my game is dead because of its gameplay. Its not. UT3 got good reviews-people loved the gameplay. I'm not trying to be rude, but you really need to get your facts straight before you downright say that a game failed because people didn't like its gameplay. There were a few that didn't; sure. UT3 is alot more balanced than the hitscan oriented 2k4, resulting in alot of crying that people could no longer dominate with the over powered shock rifle.
Also, UT3's momentum and balance are absolutely some of the greatest I've ever played with in an FPS. Webzen would be wise to try and nail UT3's movement and momentum. Epic might of screwed up a lot of things, but one thing they absolutely nailed was movement and game flow.
Again, coming from WoW, you see this with different eyes than I do. The fact that people clung on to UT3 and dealt with Epic's BS and piss poor overall game quality says something about the game. It was fun.
The point I'm trying to make is this: UT3 could of sold millions. Epic got the gameplay right, but completely fucked everything else up.
