Default Re: Anyone else bothered by the term "twitch action mmofps"

i agree with you that wow requires significantly less amount of per say "gamer skill" since its all click based. That entirely was a frustrating aspect of it when the person who takes you out does so specifically because they have had more time to devote to raiding and acquiring gear. That same facet is a part of this game, hence it appealing to the mmo crowd.

There are a lot of similarities in both genres that sort of melt in the middle. To be quite honest, theres a reason why UT3 died with it only being release a few months ago. Usually a FPS has more than a quarter year life span. Perhaps that reason is because its appeal is rapidly decreasing due to its intense momentum.

I dont know about you, but I sure don't want to be waiting years and years for a game just to see it have a 1000-1500 worldwide population after 3-4 months(like the other sci-fi post apocalyptic mmofps neocron)

I believe this game is being marketed to both crowds. As I agree that this game and the dominance attained in it will be on skills gained primarily on UT like fps'. There are things to be learned from both the slower mmo side and the "Twitching l33tness" attained in the super fast genre of FPS.

It is a bit unfair to bundle ALL fps games into one category as all of them have a different amount of game play momentum. The only two i can think of that are a bit too fast are Quake and UT. I know i play COD4 on a regular basis and that game has way higher population than UT3.

All the BF games also have a high amount of players, even the now ancient BF 1942. I'm not knocking Huxley at all, I just don't want to see it fall on its face like UT3 did due to its imbalance in game momentum.

Im sure the game may be superbly fun the the seasoned twitcher, but what about that dumb noob who is getting camped because he cant live 5 seconds out of the spawn point? or he doesnt have a low enough ping. I really do hope they have US servers, then further break them down to regions because with all FPS's sadly it's mostly all about Ping. (LOL famous saying from way way back in the day of the fps Tribes)

If the game is a mmo for the fps fan, by all means have at it. But don't clone the game after a failed business model (UT3)
