Re: Old School Planetside Fan
The big problem that killed Planetside was BFRs (read: Big Fu--ing Robots) the free gameplay was to try and revive it, and then they stopped that so now the games just going to die completely. Sad, very sad, considering it was a Sony product it could have had much better advertising.
The problem with the straight up FPS community is that there are so many pure FPS shooters out there to satiate the desires of any one. Why pick Huxley? That's how the developers needed to be thinking to win competition over in an American market. There's lots of good games on the American market, but Huxley offers long term characters that progress, a wider variety of weapons, skills, and graphics to boot.
Hopefully they will add a large scale battlefield that requires tactics (a map with two large bases, one central contested base and multiple capture points [bunkers] complete with trenches, foxholes, artillery... just an idea) to satisfy the precise tactics some players get off on (the Outfit Sturmgrenadiers comes to mind)
The market for a FPS shooter is rife with competition, which could prevent sales and have players leaving the second a new FPS comes out. Webzen needs to make this game have staying power to last 5+ years. They need to know that there's a complete lack of any game comparable to Planetside, and there are a lot of people who experienced that game and just aren't satisfied with anything else anymore.
