You may have a rig that could run it, but most of the target audience wouldn't. If you look at the sales for games like Crysis, they weren't that good partly because people didn't have (or at least think they had) a system capable of running it.
By making the game run on a wide variety of machines, which is done in part through the unreal engine technology stuff, you allow the game to be played (a.k.a. bought...... $$$) by more people and can then make more money from it. If the game could only be played by a few people with mammoth machines, then there would be no point in making servers that could support 5000 people.
Of course the easy fix for that is for you to buy everyone a better PC.
