Default Re: Huxley Gold Farming

Did anyone consider the gold farmers that are sitting in a internet bar in China getting paid two bowls of rice for every hour they spend trying to get an item for their boss to sell for real money?

It's basically a sweatshop in more modern terms, and it's some peoples only way of getting any real money. They don't do it to piss people off, they do it to feed their families.

Also, about the whole community not permitting gold farmers to profit, it feels good to say, but it will never happen. Some people will not wait to get that uber cool item if they can pay someone $5 to have it transfered to their characters account. Not to mention that the gold farmers could technically form their own guild, so they could farm even in larger PVE instances.

Yeah, gold farming doesn't really help in the long run, but it's not something you can just say STOP and people will listen. (Probably because they don't speak the same language)

I experienced this firsthand in Final Fantasy XI. At any hour of the day, you could go to where a rare creature is that drops a valuable item, and find a handful of characters always there. They kill the monster, get the item, tell their boss, and get paid. Rinse, and repeat. I even tried talking with a few of them on several occasions, but because they don't understand english (or japanese, since there was a translation feature) it was almost impossible to ask them "Hey, can I get the next drop?"

Basically, I'm trying to point out that not all gold farmers work alone, and therefore, can't be dealt with by simply buying from someone else at a higher price, because odds are, if you aren't buying from one gold farmer, you're buying from another.

I really hope that Huxley tries to take some measures against this, but it just seems inevitable.
