Fast pace gameplay doesn't mean you die quick, respawn, die quick, respawn. I can stay alive for plenty of time when I play UT. And if you take a minute to stop and set up a strat there is always time to organize stuff like dropping in behind the lines or something.
Of course those who aren't very good and choose to run in and die over and over aren't going to stay alive very long  but it can be done.
