This is a situation that is questioned alot. I do it to my laptop alot. Just hold down the power button and it auto turns off. This works with desktops too!

This is almost like chewing gum to help prevent cavities. We don't really know if it works, but we want to believe it does.

I turned off one of my friends new laptop by just holding the button and he got UBER ticked! He said, "You're never going to touch my laptop again."

So I think it's more of an opinion.
