Default Re: Will Bullets Actualy Travel

For what it's worth, both of those weapons seem to be shotguns. Since they presumably will have a short range, they could probably use a bullet exit graphic effect regardless of whether it's hitscan or not. Since they have such a wide spread you wouldn't really notice if the graphic doesn't match up with the exact calculation of the hits.

And there is no travel time on any bullets in UT2k4. Assault/Mini/Shock/LG are all hitscan. The minigun tracers themselves do have a travel time, but it's merely for a graphical effect and isn't accurate for lining up your shots or anything (similar to the "classic" sniper rifle tracer) . For those who don't play the game, Shock and LG on the other hand shoot a long bolt along the entire path of the shot instantly, and since that's how the shot is calculated it makes it possible to adjust your shots accordingly based on it.

Personally I hate seeing graphical effects for shots that don't coincide with what is actually being calculated (mostly for precision weapons like rifles). Hopefully they can avoid this by making bullet-based weapons either have tracers that essentially just shoot out a long trail like shock in UT, or just don't include them at all. Of course that only applies if they actually include hitscan weapon calculation.
