I have the same problem as you. I like having that small group of friends that you play with all the time, become good friends with, and not to mention kick ass togeather when you start playing. I don't really want to join one of these huge clans, to me they feel like mobs. I will probably do for Huxley what I did for any other MMo or FPS I played, have a select group of players that I will play with all the time, we'll become a crew, help eachother out with weapons and such when needed, and when it comes to play time we'll destroy. I don't really think the big clans can get as much teamwork as the smaller ones, obviously because they have so much people, but when it comes to in game, I bet it's pretty intimidating to see a group of people all in the same clan compared to your four or five.
